a week of learning

well this week is only half over and while we're battling a household illness of some kind, we've learned quite a lot. after observing quite a bit of behavior that concerned me, we made an appointment to take m to a therapist. just our luck that the therapist is a former adoption case worker so we spent quite a lot of time going over the basics.

she urged us to get as much information as possible about the home the child was taken from. now our training with the state made it sound like due to privacy issues only minimal information could be shared. she said just ask and tell them why you need the information, you'll get it. this was good to hear as with so little information, we're left to fill in the blanks to try to understand the causes of said behaviors. not a good situation at all.

a great session and m enjoyed the play therapy that she got in as well. as i've said before i am continually impressed with the work that these folks are doing to help children in need. like teachers, these folks are helping the world become a better place and they are sure not getting rich doing it.

we also had our first formal post-placement visit with the case worker. she came at dinner time so we invited her to join us for a meal. all went smoothly although there was a dramatic pause when the worker was alone with child as rob and i attended to dishes. we could hear the magic question so clearly 'so do you like living here.' fortunately, m said "yes...sean picks me up from school and..."

rob and i collectively breathed a sigh of relief as timing is everything with a 3 year old!
