Opening doors
One of the things that I'm really surprised by, now that we've got a
kid in the house, is how neighbors that are usually "wave hello say
goodbye people" become so interested and talkative about the kid.
Its quite a pleasant surprise and an unanticipated benefit of this
experience.

I had a similar experience when I got Fintan! People who didn't look twice at me in the street where stopping to say hello and ask about him! Kids and dogs tend to make us more approachable I think. :)
