so we were looking forward to a quiet weekend at home to catch up on some errands but late friday we got a distress call from our case worker.  she said she really needed some help placing a brother and sister for the weekend and she really didn't want to separate them.  at first i was going to demur, but rob said it might be good to get us acclimated to other kids now that it looks like madelyn is going to be leaving us in a few months.

so we said yes.  the brother (7) and the sister (10) arrived at about 9 p.m. friday night after their physical exams.  they hadn't eaten all day and refused supper as well.  they were obviously scared and traumatized as they only said one word or two when asked questions and tried very hard not to be a bother.

madelyn was in hog heaven, having some new kids to hang with.

in fact, having new kids made madelyn a bit of a terror as the girl wouldn't stop pawing them and asking question after question.  ironically, the new kids were no trouble at all.  i'm so glad we opened up our home to them as i am always concerned about the kids that come into the system and tend to think the worst.  that they're terrors and out to destroy everything.

yes i have issues.

not these kids at all.  all weekend they were so quiet and respectful and i used them to show madelyn how she should be trying to behave.  fortunately, the kids did start eating regularly after saturday morning and now we're waiting for the case worker to come pick them up for the day as they figure out where the kids will be going.

if they need to stay longer, i think we'll be able to do that for these kids.   i can't imagine what it's like for these kids.
